Doctor-led seminar answers questions, provides gateway to healthier lives

Morbid obesity has reached epidemic
proportions, especially in Gila County, where more than 27 percent of adults are considered obese. Bridges Center for Surgical Weight Management will hold a free doctor-led seminar to answer questions and provide information about weight-loss options in Globe on Saturday, March 24 at 10 a.m. at the Travelodge Globe at 2118 W. Hwy. 60.
For many battling obesity, and the serious life-threatening diseases it brings – including diabetes, high blood pressure and off-the-charts cholesterol – surgery becomes an option when diet and exercise alone cannot lead to weight loss. Choosing to undergo bariatric surgery is one of the most difficult decisions a patient can make; it is also tied to undeniably cathartic health benefits.
Weight loss is a gateway to improving overall health and quality of life. Open to the public, the seminar will feature surgeons from Bridges Center for Surgical Weight Loss at St. Luke’s Medical Center– which has been voted No. 1 in surgical weight loss management for three consecutive years in Ranking Arizona Magazine – discussing the challenges of obesity and the critical role of bariatric surgery. The team will also take attendees through the different types of weight loss surgery procedures, support programs that are offered and address common questions about weight-loss surgery.
The physician team will also share inspiring success stories of patients who have overcome seemingly insurmountable obesity and health challenges through surgical weight loss management. There will be a question and answer session, and spouses, family members and partners are encouraged to attend.
Registration is required as space is limited. To register, visit the Bridges Center for Surgical Weight Loss by calling 602-251-8828 or visiting BridgesAZ. com/seminars.
Where: Travelodge Globe (2119 Highway 60, Globe, AZ 85501)
When: 10 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2018
Why: More than one in four adults are obese in Gila County, and the numbers are steadily climbing. Obesity-related health issues contribute to heart disease and diabetes, which are the second- and seventh-leading causes of death in the U.S.
Putting surgical weight-loss options into greater context, this seminar is part of the ongoing commitment of the bariatric surgical team of the Bridges Center for Weight Management at St. Luke’s Medical Center and Mountain Vista Medical Center to educate potential patients and their families about bariatric surgery and break down myths and stigmas associated with weight-loss surgery.
